New topics included an opening session focusing on Experience, a session on teaching an animal how to say "No", Consulting Skills, and a closing session focused on a few elephant conservation projects.

Art & Science of Animal Training

This event was expanded to two days last year and was so successful that it is a two-day public event again in 2017. Ken will present on two topics, Teaching an Animal to Say "No" and a look at Teaching Duration Behaviors: Creating Lengthy Behavior Chains.

This is an excellent course for zoo trainers.  This will be the first international version of this course.  Ken was invited to participate and will be teaching along with Michelle Skurski.  Details are still being worked out.

A one-week hands-on course that combines classroom learning with the opportunity to train ranch animals with guidance and feedback from Ken and the ranch staff. This is a comprehensive course that teaches students key principles needed to work with animals in a professional enviornment. It is designed for professionals of all species and is a one-week version of the graduate course Ken taught for 20 years for Western Illinois University and for 15 years at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium.

 

September 18-22

The Ranch Experience

This one-week course is unique in that it gives participants the chance to work on the ranch for one week and be assigned one of the ranch residents (mini-donkeys and goats) as their training partner for the week. This course focuses on skill development with only a few hours of lecture and a greater focus on hands on learning and observation. The course is tailored to each student's skill level and interest as the student may choose from five themed areas of focus and course work will be aimed at each students current skill level.

International Marine Animal Trainers Association Conference

The annual IMATA conference is an excellent place to meet trainers and talk training.  Ken's involvement iincludes two preconference seminars on Sunday, October 1.

Dive Deep: An Advanced Training Course

A one-week specialized course focused on key topics and skills that are not dicussed in most baisc training courses. It was developed as a follow-up to the popular Training for Professionals course that Ken has taught for more than 20 years.  It combines lecture with hands on experience at the ranch.
